Unit 6 - Feature Film / Project

My Media CV & Cover Letter:

- For the feature film, I will be applying for the role of the Production Designer which is one of the main roles. I understand it is a huge responsibility and I am prepared to take it on - I have done a lot of research prior and already have an idea of how I would interpret the design of the scenes. As for a backup role, I am going to apply for the key editor role. I have a lot of experience with editing (editing for friends, music video project, editing in my free time) so I feel like I'd be a good fit for the role. If I were the main editor, I would constantly be on set monitoring the scenes to see where I could put it all together and the different things I could do.

Production Designer Research:

A Production Designer works closely with the art department and develops sets based on the script’s description of the setting. As part of the role, I will be identifying sets and styles to use that reflects the character’s personality (exp. If a character loves the colour red their bedroom might have a few red objects scattered around). This role is important as it helps elevate the storyline of the actual production, if a character’s office for example is a plain room with a desk and chair it won’t be as appealing and it may give the audience an impression of the character that is not what the director wants. The design of a scene most of the time actually reflects how a character/production effects the audience’s feeling towards the scene – so it’s important that the design is on point. The role is also very important because it’s the head of the department, it oversees everyone else’s work and allows the designs for the production to flow.

Coming Of Age Genre:

When setting up paper work for the production, we made a google drive file where everything will be stored:

Production Diaries:

Here is a link to a Google Docs folder than contains all of my production diaries from each day of filming:

Evaluations:

 Mid-Point Evaluation -

I believe I have done my job well, as I'm part of the Audio/Foley team my job is to mic up the actors and even stand with the mic close to them to pick up the audio. This was challenging at time as I had to remain out of the shot but I managed to successfully do it. There were problems I had to over come (of which I explained in my Production Diary) but after myself and everyone else working on the feature film overcame the issues, everything was fine. I would say my weakest area when it comes to the feature film is my job is a quite quick job so once I mic up the actors there's nothing much for me to do, I should be able to seek other jobs around me and help work on that to keep me busy at all times. I will continue to develop this by observing what others are doing around me and then working on it myself to extend my knowledge/get the job done.

As for the side project, so far myself and the team have every documents up to date and we are just waiting for the shooting dates to arrive. I think my weakest area is writing up documents as while I can do it in the end - I believe I can produce it better and up to a better standard with more development. I will continue to develop this by volunteering to draft up more documents on future projects so I have more experience with it - thus allowing me to progressively get better.

 Peer Review -

For my peer review, I was mostly put down as satisfactory which doesn't mean good but it's also not the worst; I had been marked good in: Group Work, Productivity and Honesty. For my notes, I need to work on stepping in more and taking initiative when filming on set, as well as voicing my ideas to input into the film. I can reflect on the ticks and review myself by seeing what I can change in the way I do my work. Looking at the sheet, I need to work harder to get into that good bracket and then excellent, this could mean inputting additional ideas into projects, going above and beyond on roles and work - anything to help out others. Usually with work I let others pick the roles they would like and I'd fulfil the remaining ones, I believe I need to add more work into these roles - that is what I've taken away from the assessment.
